A long-grain, fine and translucent rice from the Indica family, native to the slopes of the Himalayas. It is noted for its delicate natural aroma and light texture, which results in loose, fluffy grains after cooking.
Its characteristic fragrance is due to the high concentration of 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline, a naturally occurring aromatic compound. Basmati rice contains approximately 0.09 parts per million of this substance, a quantity up to 12 times higher than in other rice varieties, which gives it its unmistakable fragrance.
Serving suggestions: Ideal for salads, side dishes, Asian-inspired dishes, curries and recipes featuring vegetables, meat or fish. For best results, cook with two parts water to one part rice.
