Organic extra virgin olive oil produced in the Alto Douro region (Portugal) with olives of the Cobrançosa, Madural, Verdeal and Cordovil varieties from centuries-old olive trees. Certified with the Tras-os-Montes Protected Designation of Origin.
It has a golden-green colour. On the nose, it has a medium-fresh fruitiness, with marked notes of green olive leaf, grass and green almond. On the palate, this oil has a fruity flavour accompanied by a slight bitter and spicy touch at the end, excellently balanced. Persistent and intense aftertaste of nuts, especially walnuts.
Recommendations for use: This is a very versatile extra virgin olive oil. Ideal for green leaf salads, green asparagus and vegetable creams, as well as toast or focaccia. It also enhances the flavour of seafood, white fish, red meat and semi-cured and cured cheeses.
Acushla's quality has been recognised in leading national and international competitions, such as Olive Japan, London IOOC, BIOL, Berlin GOOA and Azeites de Portugal, among others.
Acushla was founded in 2006 in the Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro region, where Joaquim Moreira, after extensive research into areas with high potential for extra virgin olive oil production in Portugal, found a privileged location.
Quinta Acushla estate, with 14 hectares of centuries-old olive groves and 200 hectares of young olive groves, has approximately 70,000 olive trees. When they reach maturity, the expected production of extra virgin olive oil will reach 250,000 litres, making it one of the largest organic production areas in the Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro region. In addition, they have an oil mill equipped with the most advanced technology, being the first oil mill in Portugal to be certified by FSSC 22000 (Food Safety System Certification), one of the strictest international standards in food safety.
Concern for the environment and sustainability is one of the fundamental pillars of Acushla, which is why they have opted for organic farming, in which the cultivation of olive trees is carried out with the utmost respect for the procedures established for organic production, as set out in European legislation. This production includes the use of agricultural techniques that respect natural life cycles and reduce environmental impact.
Acushla has been winning awards and recognition in major national and international competitions for two decades. They have been included in the ranking of the best extra virgin olive oils in the world and have won awards in Portugal, Italy, Greece, Germany, France, Japan, Dubai, Canada, the United States and Brazil.
