Extra virgin olive oil produced in the Terra Alta region (Tarragona) using Oliana olives.

Oliana is a hybrid variety developed in Spain in the late 1990s, resulting from a cross between Arbequina and Arbosana. It is notable for its high agronomic potential, as well as its excellent adaptation to super-intensive cultivation and low temperatures, producing extra virgin olive oils that are smooth, balanced and pleasant on the palate.

On the nose, it is fruity with green notes of fresh grass, fennel and artichoke. On the palate, it is light and silky, with a predominantly sweet character, although there are also hints of mild bitterness and a slight piquancy.

Food pairing: This is a highly versatile extra virgin olive oil, ideal for salads, sautéed or tempura-style vegetables, white fish and steamed seafood, cheeses, pasta and rice with vegetables, bread with tomato, citrus fruits or yoghurt.

Az-Azeytun is a project that stands out for producing single-varietal extra virgin olive oils from Arbequina and Empeltre olives, the main varieties of the Terra Alta region, located in the Terres de l'Ebre (Catalonia). This region boasts geological and climatic conditions that are ideal for growing olives and producing oil of exceptional quality.

Az-Azeytun is a young extra virgin olive oil with character, produced from vigorous trees and the dedication of its creator, Abel Maijó, an enterprising winegrower born in the town of Batea, in the province of Tarragona.

Factors such as a Mediterranean microclimate at around 400 metres above sea level, with a particular influence from the Pàndols and Cavalls mountain ranges in the Els Ports Natural Park, provide the necessary humidity, prevent health issues and promote optimal ripening of the olives, ensuring they arrive at the mills in excellent condition.

The terroir, with a clayey and granular structure, featuring thin layers and low organic matter content, has an alkaline reaction and is deficient in potassium and phosphorus. These characteristics directly influence the biological cycle of the olive tree and, consequently, the quality of its fruit.

Furthermore, the monumental, traditional and native olive trees of the Terra Alta region bear witness to the passage of time and the legacy of generations of farmers who have dedicated themselves to cultivating this light, dry soil, shaped by the west wind, which lends a unique character to the fruit it yields.
