Quinta da Boeira was built by an immigrant called Manuel da Rocha Romariz, who returned from Brazil at the beginning of the 19th century. A connoisseur of the Brazilian market, in 1850 he registered as an exporter of Port wine under the brand name BOEIRA.

These brands soon gained the respect and trust of consumers and distributors due to their quality. It expanded into several markets, including Portuguese, English, French and Brazilian, among others.

In 1966, the property was acquired by an English family, the warehouses by a textile company and the wines were sold to a Port wine exporting company.

In 1999 the property was put up for sale. The main interested party was a builder who wanted to build luxury housing in a gated condominium.

The priest João de Freitas Ferreira, headmaster of a school in Vila Nova de Gaia, reported the possibility that 3 hectares of the property would be transformed into a massive construction, thus destroying its centenary forests.

Concerned and sensitive to the cause, the priest João de Freitas Ferreira, together with a group of 10 friends, decided to acquire the property, thus protecting the centenary trees and the mansion from the beginning of the 19th century.

Today Quinta da Boeira has a wide range of wines and also produces extra virgin olive oil coupage of the Picual and Cobrançosa varieties, which is bottled in Portuguese ceramic bottles.
