Catalonia has a variety of extra virgin olive oils of extraordinary quality, being the fourth area of Spain with the highest production of olive oil. There are up to 5 Protected Designations of Origin of extra virgin olive oil in Catalonia: "Terra Alta", "Baix Ebre-Montsià", "l'Empordà", "Siurana" and "Les Garrigues". In Catalonia, the Arbequina variety predominates and Catalan oils are mainly characterized by their varied colors and aromas, sweet and of medium intensity.
