This species is native to the Bering Sea, at the tip of the North Pacific, and the Barents Sea, between the Atlantic and the Arctic. It was introduced to Murmansk, in the far north-west of Russia, in 1960. Thanks to its rapid adaptation, it can also be found in Norwegian waters.
